Program Overview
Biotechnology employs molecular biology and genetic engineering to develop new technologies and products, and to investigate their applications in medicine, industry, academia, and research and development. Alfaisal University realized the importance of biotechnology as it can potentially participate in a new industrial revolution in the 21st century. Biotechnology can play a major role in developing a knowledge society and establishing knowledge-based economy.
The MBS Biotechnology track includes courses dealing with the advanced techniques of molecular biology, genetic engineering, applications of nanotechnology, and special topics such as nanomedicine and its applications in disease diagnosis, drug formulation, and drug delivery.
The graduate program in biotechnology is a joint multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary program of the following colleges: Science and General Studies and Medicine. The program was designed to adapt the approach of integrating and making maximum benefit from the varied research expertise and facilities available at the different Colleges of Alfaisal.
This program is open to the students of undergraduate degree from life sciences, pharmacy, medicine and engineering, Saudi and non-Saudi, local and international.
Admission Requirements
- A bachelor's degree accepted by The Ministry of Education (MOE) in a related field.
- A satisfactory scholastic average; a minimum grade average of "good" in the bachelor’s degree.
- Alfaisal Graduates or applicants who come from a country or political entity
where English is not the official language adequate proficiency in English to do
graduate work, as evidenced by

- Applicant should provide one recent letter of recommendation from professors who taught or from a manager at the workplace.
- The graduate study application must be accompanied by a non-refundable application fee payable to Alfaisal University, which is equal to SAR 600.
- An Interview with the applicant may be requested if required.

Biotechnology is a 2-year program
Tuition Fees
Students are allowed to repeat a maximum of 6 CH during their study without incurring extra fees. If students exceed the allowed CH, the normal CH rate will apply.

Scholarships
Alfaisal University provides thesis scholarship up to 50% for thesis programs only. You need to fulfill the following requirements & conditions:
- Cumulative GPA (3.00 out of 4.00 and above) by the end of the first academic year.
- Full payment of the total tuition fees (100,000 SAR) by the end of the first academic year.
